Event:

MAG Scotland Annual General Meeting

When:

1:00pm Saturday 26th October 2002

Where:

New County Hotel, Perth

The Scottish AGM was held on Saturday 26th October - 3.5% turnout which is okay considering the very large area involved! Folk came from as far as Aberdeenshire and Ayrshire which, to those who aren't familiar with Scotland, are about 200 miles apart.

It was agreed that the three regions should be disbanded and that Scotland revert to one region. There was concern that this would weaken representation on the NC, a fair point, but when do we ever get three Scottish Reps? This is also a point to consider when regions want to split because they think they are too big. The Scottish re-organisation goes with MAG's suggestion on rationalisation in line with regional government, and I am concerned that other regions are moving ever further away from this. Food for thought.

Steve Wykes was duly elected as Regional Rep, and many suggestions were made from the floor as to how we can progress. Hopefully we can re-establish the regional meetings we used to hold (out of necessity these included an overnight stay, and AfterShock) that stopped when we lost our venue (which has recently re-opened!). Most people were keen to see MAG continue its "smarter" working ethic, with all campaigns being multi-tiered as opposed to blanket bombing of several years ago.

The meeting was very amiable with some new faces which is always nice. I did get some questions regarding Nicky's resignation etc. afterwards in the bar, but most people are keen to see MAG moving on under new "management". As chair I also took the liberty of fixing the date for the next one, same time next year!
Knowing the end was coming as "caretaker" it was a pleasure sending out all the notifications, printing agendas/voting slips/questionnaires and chairing the meeting. I'll see if they ask me back next time.....

Regards
Brian
